If you want to keep your home or business safe, one of your best options is having a video surveillance system. But do you know how to connect with IP cameras, NVR, DVR, and network cables? The following are the six installation ways for a video surveillance system.
TRADITIONAL WAY (IP CAMERA, POWER SUPPLY, NETWORK CABLE, POWER CABLE)
In the deployment, you need to wire both network and power cables for the system. That means there are power cables to each camera for power supply and network cables to NVR for data transmission. The power supply could be the AC 110V/220V nearby if you want to save the power cables.
POE TECHNOLOGY (IP CAMERA, POE SWITCH, NETWORK CABLE)
Compared with the traditional way, it saves the power cable. The PoE switch provides data and power to cameras through one network cable (UTP Cat.5 or above) within 100 meters.
The connection is as follows:
FIBER TRANSMISSION (IP CAMERA, FIBER CABLE, MEDIA CONVERTER)
Generally, a single run of Ethernet cable is designed to work at a maximum distance of 100 meters or 328 feet. A length longer than this can result in issues such as dropped packets, reduced performance, and loss of signal, particularly when using Cat.5 cable due to being limited to 100 Mbps. For the over-100-meter transmission, one of the options is to use the fiber solution, of which the transmission distance is 550 meters or more with high stability (depending on the performance of the SFP module). The media converter is one of the solutions, which could convert the data signal into the optical signal on the transmitting end and then convert it back to the data signal on the receiving end.
WIRELESS TRANSMISSION (IP CAMERA, CPE)
We can use wireless transmission when facing wiring difficulties caused by natural barriers or insurmountable obstacles in the environment, for example, in residential areas with hardened roads, elevators, already-built factories, long-distance open spaces, etc.
Point-to-multipoint Transmission
Point-to-point Transmission
If the cameras are concentrated in a place, you can connect the cameras to a switch, then connect this switch with a CPE.
If the cameras are scattered and their distance is longer, you can connect each camera to a pair of bridges.
CPEs could convert network signals into radio waves for the point-to-point transmission from several hundred meters to tens of kilometers, but they need to work in pairs. Please keep no obstructions or obstacles between the transmitting and receiving ends to ensure stable transmission.
LONG-DISTANCE TRANSMISSION (IP CAMERA, OLT, ONU)
PON monitoring and transmission network system mainly uses the operator's fiber resources to achieve the purpose of transmission, providing guarantee for the applications of the central management platform, which can better serve all kinds of users. Due to relatively high costs, this solution is applied to public service projects.
A PON system consists of OLT (Optical line terminal), ONU (Optical Network Unit), and ODN (Optical Distribution Network).
Core Network of Data Center
The major device at the core layer is the core switch which has a high configuration performance as the brain of the entire network. At present, core switches are generally equipped with dual power supplies. For this reason, a project wouldn’t deploy dual core switches. Therefore, the requirements of backplane bandwidth and processing power on this core switch are high.
Front-end video access
The front-end network adopts an independent IP address network segment to complete the interconnection of multiple front-end surveillance devices. The front-end videos are connected to the data center for aggregation through the IP network. Currently, the front-end network access uses point-to-point fiber access and point-to-multipoint PON access. It needs to provide support on the access layer for the network access of storage devices (NVR) to ensure a safe and reliable network environment.
OUTDOOR LONG-DISTANCE TRANSMISSION (4G, SOLAR POWER SYSTEM, IP CAMERA)
The solar surveillance system provides electricity-free protection for remote areas, large properties, outbuildings, etc. Due to the far transmission distance, wireless technology is the ideal option for this system, such as 4G, which is widely used nowadays. And the high signal coverage and easy deployment of 4G also make it the best choice for this system. In the future, with the development and popularity of 5G, the system could be an increasingly popular surveillance solution with faster and more stable performance.
